A Future for Horatius
It’s been quite a while since I have sat and posted something. After 15 years of breeding; I think I find myself most delighted about the placement of Horatius than any other foal or horse we have homed. Not to diminish how pleased we have been about with whom and where our previous horses have gone; but I am most excited about this one. Horatius will enter the world of our brothers in blue. His personality is absolutely perfect for this service and the plan is that he will remain a stallion and go on to sire future four-legged brothers (and sisters) in blue. This is going to be one of the hardest ones to say good bye to. He is the product of Joe, Boo, Lucan, Fortuna, Rhosyn, Fusilier.... with these guys in his blood it is no surprise he is who he is with the temperament and personality that he has. I feel he and I have a bit of a deeper connection than I have had with other foals. Percy was right up there, as was Rhonwen. There is something really special about Horatius though and this future life and home for him is the absolute most perfect. He will leave before Christmas. I am going to miss this one for sure.
Okay... so close. Days away. The turkeys’ days are numbered. Literally. I took great pleasure in picking up a very limited number of bags of turkey feed yesterday, knowing I (we) would not have to tending to these guys any longer after mid next week. Fortunately the weather looks pretty good. Sunny and in the 40-something range. As long as it’s not windy and raining...it makes the day of harvesting a lot more pleasant for we humans. Much to do in preparation for Wednesday...so little time. We’ve got 4 turkeys left available. There will be no pardons this year. Everyone will be volunteering.
