Dairy Goats

We started our dairy goat operation with just two does; Freska and Ciara.  Upon kidding we suddenly had 4 more does when Ciara gave us quadruplet doelings. Can you say Dairy Goat Lottery!!   That same year, Freska had triplet boys who found a home with a nice family in the Winchester VA area.  It did not take long for us to realize how much we liked the dairy goats and it was not long before Crystal and Jackie joined us.   Now in 2012 we are expecting even more kids and hope for a kidding season full of females.  Just in case; we have signed on for 4 other new doelings that were born this year.  They will not join us here at Bay Haven Farm until the end of May; but have decided to mix things up a little and will be adding two Nubians; Kailan and Katniss and two Oberhasli; Abby and Zoey.  We will spend the coming years growing the dairy and will have our first go at making Goats Milk Soap this year.  We will work toward pasteurization, clean rooms and cheese making.  Becoming an official “dairy” is not an easy process though and will require some time and significant investment.  We plan to work toward this end.  In the meantime; we are able to offer shares of goats which allow folks to enjoy fresh goats milk, goat cheese made from “their goat” and we will also give goat’s milk soap a go.
