The Farm Hand's Almanac for August 26,  2008 - Occasional musings & photos from the farm hand

Autumn is definitely creeping in on us.  The next two days are due to be only in the 70's and finally the rain we so desperately need is expected.  It has become very, very dry.  Gwynith will turn 2 years on on Saturday.  We'll be sure to capture the monumental 2 year birthday with a photo and measurements.  Heading out to visit Big B again on Saturday who is doing smashingly well.  Sunday we will pick up our new yearling Tup...a handsome devil with some phenomenal wool.  Weaning will happen next week when the Farm Hand is home to assist with the giant shuffle.  Not only will we wean Bors, Galahad and Iz, but we will rotate everyone to winter pastures as well which will require moving 20 horses and 5 male sheep.  That'll be a busy morning!  Fortunately the ewes are already where they need to be!

Welcome to our farm.  For whatever reason you were drawn here, we hope you enjoy your visit.  We make a practice of updating our site very frequently, so if you are a regular visitor and have us bookmarked, refresh your page often. Thank you for visiting our website.

ODS is a unique Cleveland Bay Horse stud farm here in the United States in that our stallion; Joe lives out with his own herd of mares and their foals.  It is incredibly interesting to watch and observe the behaviors of the herd.  Living in such a way has given way to high conception rates, a very happy stallion, and foals growing up learning how to live in a family unit. Our newest addition, Fred  who we hope will grow up to be our outcross stallion will also eventually be turned out with his own herd of mares.  We have a small group of fillies consisting of OldDominion Gwynith, OldDominion Rhiannon, and OldDominion Olwen who will become Fred's mates.

Currently, ODS is home to twelve (12) purebred Cleveland Bay Horses , two (2) Thoroughbred mares, one (1) Cleveland Bay sport horse filly, one (1) Cleveland Bay sport horse gelding. Our resident breeding stallion is Quality Approved, Premium Rated, multiple Champion Cleveland Bay stallion,  Tregoyd JourneymanJoe (as he is affectionately known) was bred and raised by Colin and Margaret Green at Trenewydd Farm in Wales.  Joe is a remarkable stallion with valuable blood lines.  He is an excellent representation of the Cleveland Bay Breed and we expect he will do wonderful things for the Breed here in the United States.

Our Cleveland Bay sport horse gelding,  OldDominion Bedwyr, finishes out the horse population here at ODS.  During 2008 Big B (Bedwyr) will further is training as he settles into his third year.

Visitors to the farm are always welcome, simply give us a call or drop us an email to arrange an appointment.
